Oh the times, they are a changin'

Sun Jun 28, 2009, 10:29 AM
Well my friends it was a good run but it seems I have lost my touch for erotic pinups. With the slow cancerous death of 2d animated entertoonment here in the wessssst, even I am becoming disenchanted with the prospect of drawing cartoon porn and it is starting to show in my work. Instead of drawing with a heart full of inspiration I am merely drawing toon pron out of reflex. A recent rule34 of a character from the new Disney cartoon Jimmy 2 Shoes of Faffi I had drawn has confirmed my diagnosis. Most likely my worstist work to date since my 2006 run of Simpson porn. While it was just a simple doodle done in 15 minutes, It still had no life or inspiration. The sad thing is this is not a singular event, lately I have been feeling this way about the prospect of drawing any future toon porn pinups. I just dont feel it anymore.
I am not saying that I hate drawn erotic art, just that of the toon parody variety or more specifically the random rule34 variety.
It is time for a change of pace, time to stop with the pinups and try something new, so I come to you, few, who follow my work (much appreciated btw) I ask what should I move on to?

One thing I am considering is going the Zone route, Zone used to be a pinup porn guy back in the day before he moved onto doing flash animations and I feel this should be the next evolution for me as well. I just feel more inspired to go this route as I love animation and sound and color (things my work does not have and can never convey in pinup form, well maybe color, but that's it) Something I think all us toon lovers can agree, adds soooo much to experience and his recent Jinxed Flash hit this point home for me over the head like a boulder on Wile E Coyote. If he had drawn a bunch of still pinups it just would not have been the same. I would start with simple loops of characters I enjoy rather than doing random rule34s willy nilly.

OR, I have also considered going the OC route. Before 2006, when I started posting crappy Simpson porn, I was always drawing my own characters, I was never a practitioner of fan art ( these past 3 years have been great practice doing fanart tho) I still enjoy drawing my own abortions..er creations.. Plus I could legally publish my art in sketchbooks (could you imagine my shit on display at Barnes and Noble?) like Dean Yeagle and Chris Sanders. Men I admire and feel kinsman-ship with even tho I only possess 1/50th their talent.

So, I ask you kind, non-troll, folks
What would you do iffin' you was me?

everyone runs into ruts and sometimes has that feeling. I used to think that I wasnt cut out for music.

One thing is that you always have to have confidence in yourself.

Now, this may be a little long, but I just got my 1st job as a kitchen cutlery sales rep. Im gonna be 20 on 7/6. FIRST JOB!

Im a pretty outgoing person, but when something frustrated me, Id just let it sit and move on to something different.
After I took this job, Ive been more active than ever.
I owe it to my job to be inspired to keep at it.

Now, as for the type of art, maybe you should try something different?
Try like, not pornographic, but sensual, sexual type art. Kinda capturing emotions in the work.
Ive seen some of 14 Bis's work with even just simple eye expressions that make a picture worth a look :]

I have confidence in you, maybe you need just a break from it for a while. But whatever the case, dont give up what you love doing :]

As a fan of yours for the past few years, I can say one thing I like about you is that you aren't afraid to try new things. The fact that you tried your hand at so many different characters never ceased to impress me, regardless if the resutls were gold or rubbish. Now that you're on the verge of wanting to try something new, I can only wish you the best on your journey.

In regard to animation, be prepared for a lot of work. One thing I would be worried about is you getting tired of drawing the same character in slightly different poses to create your motion loop. If you were to create a Frankie flash, I'd fear you'd even get tired of drawing that redhead you excel so well at. I'm not saying you couldn't pull something major like this off (you know I have mad respect for your abilities), but it's the repetition aspect I'd be concerned about. Still, it would be so much fun to see what you can come up with. ^_^

As for original sketches, that would be a good route. You can create the personalities, ages, and background to your own tastes. The only drawback is that the fans would need some time to make a connection to your creations and become interested in them. And publishing said works? That would be epic. I can just imagine the conversation piece a Fluffy sketch book on my coffee table would make.

hm, I think animation would be a good idea

Ah yes..clean pinups of mild eroticism is always on the table, but as far as breaks go I can safely say I have had a loong break already, so I know this is not a knee-jerk reaction or a recent lack of inspiration if it has been months since I felt inspired to draw "that stuff"
:iconspartacus13:
Ahhh the great thing about doing animation in flash is it is basically cut-out animation. I would draw a pose and break the character up in chunks. ie: legs, arms, eyes, breasts..ect.
and animate the movement of the shapes, There is actually very little drawing involved in doing a flash loop, just lots of time hunting for audio clips and getting the timing of the animation correct, but I see your point. Also I could never get tired of drawing Frankie ;)

Your point about the OC stuff I also understand, however I look at the works of Dean Yeagle and even Chris Sanders and you see that none of their girls have a back story. Its all just good ol' fashioned well drawn art done in interesting situations designed to help inspire young artists, much like animator Glen Keane's sketches did for me back when I was a young artist. but LOL..I would like to be a fly on the wall in the room when you have that conversation. Possibly even more interesting would be the conversation I would have with my family when they get their hands on it.

Hmmm... The flash route sounds like a good idea. I don't think I've seen many of your OC characters, other than that pencil girl with the F hairclips (that was an OC right?), so I can't really say much about that. If you already know how to use flash then I say go for it. Its rewarding work. Either way I'll be a fan of w/e you do :D

It shouldn't work... but it does...

~Zone used to be a pinup porn guy
:paranoid: Somehow, I thought Zone was a girl for some reason, they didn't state their gender on their profile...

~What would you do iffin' you was me?
:plotting: I support your idea of dabbling in animation, more for the fact that you would have a more diverse skill set than just trying something new (so you would be more desirable as a versatile employee when the interviews roll around). If you're starting out small, might I suggest making all your initial animations part of something bigger that you can work up to, rather than individual unrelated skits :twocents:
