Going Legit?

Mon Jul 21, 2008, 1:06 PM
I want to thank everyone who commented on my last journal. I'm sorry I didnt reply, I felt it was not necessary to merely agree with everyone and it was just a fluff journal anyway. this journal I will reply to:)

I have been having an artistic crisis lately. It seems I have an art block 5 days a week. So I had to ask myself some serious questions about the type of work I do. While it is fun to draw half naked cartoon gals, It's definitely not going to be an artistic medium that will support me in the future. As I have many years ahead of me and a quickly dwindling artistic shelf life of relevance, I see now that I have to go mainstream and start building a portfolio that not filled with sexual maidens and get me a real honest to goodness studio job.

It is nice to have lots of page views and comments and seeing my art posted on other forums and chans, but with the fast approaching death of western 2d animation. I dont think I will have anything left to fanart in a few years.

This leads me to believe I should start making plans for future otherwise its " shitty job till I'm dead" for me and start to explore all new avenues of art besides hotgirl fanart.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think? in 20-30 years you guys will still be drooling over old cartoons or is this all a fad destined to die?

nah, they drooled over cartoon girls 60 years ago, they will drool 60 years later

but I do think you should try and explore other reaches of the artistic scale
I would love to see you going professional in the future
you do have the talent

I love to see art from you, no mater the medium or genre

I think that you should stick to doing 2D drawings  yea its true that more and more animation is computer nowadays, but that doesn't mean that 2D is dead or going to die. Look at the success with "Enchanted." Even tho only part of it was traditional animation, it still was a big hit. Plus we need people to stick to their roots in this anime and computer-animation obssessed world.
As for the portfolio, yeah I think it would be a good idea to start doing more drawings that aren't sexy, half naked girls, not to say that that's a bad thing. maybe put 1 or 2 in there, but for the rest, maybe just some realism and anatomy pics and stuff like that. hang in there! :w00t:

If you feel the need to go pro, then do it. It is your future. And you are the one who decides how it will be.

Now, I will miss your sexy art. I, as well as many others, can appreciate it for what it is, beautifully drawn pieces of art.

You should develop an art portfiolo and produce more non-risque 2d drawings. Of course, I'm not saying give up drawing our favorite toon hotties for all of eternity. :lmao:

Oh, the toon gals that I'm a fan of will never die in my eyes. Even when their series are long forgotten.

It shouldn't work... but it does...

Despite the slow painful death of 2D animations in Western countries, people will still continue fantasizing about gorgeous girls from any cartoon series. Regardless if people say it's wrong, the fantasy will still be there. :) 2D or 3D, it won't matter if you know how to keep the look in your artwork. :D

As for your decision of going legit, that is entire up to you. :)
:iconlevelord:
I say you start your own animation company and make some cartoons.

Then we can have something to draw fanart about. :D

Ron: So I guess the crush and everything is all Moodulator huh?

Kim: Not everything, there's still fireworks.

I don't think anyone who gets into drawing 'smutty' art was really planning on staying with it forever. Everyone has something they would later do, and usually use drawings of scadly dessed girls as a springboard to greater things. Though it would be a shame to see such a great 2d artist go, its something that we all have to accept.

Good luck with all of your future endevors, and thank you for all the art you have posted. I personally fallowed you in your time before deviantart.

Make that portfolio if you like. You have some amazing art skills that can be applied both adult and clean.

Plus you have people who would love to pay you for some art :)

Well thanks I do wish many others had that same attitude. However 60 years ago was the birth of cartoons in its more modern form, maybe its life cycle has ran out?
